Worried AI might make your business obsolete? Take a deep breath—it’s actually your secret weapon for growth when used strategically and we’re going to show you how to Ai proof your business.
IE 455: Ai Proof Your Business
How can you make AI another employee in your business? You won’t get beat out by AI if you pay attention, stay authentic, and use Jenny’s PACK method.
What are some of the strategies that we can leverage to keep our businesses viable?
The first thing you need to be able to leverage AI is to understand that AI is not meant to replace you. It is meant to help you, speed up your processes and be able to get the research phase out of the way without you having to dig deep and find out how to get all of the information.
Now you can use AI to help you do that. AI is supposed to be the assistant that you could potentially be having a conversation with about your business.
It might be someone that you could hire, if you had that ability, to help in your business. Maybe they would write the copy or do the research. That is how you are using AI. It isn’t replacing you but helping you speed up the processes.
You must understand your positioning in business. Jenny refers to this as her “PACK” framework. It is a framework that helps monetize what you are doing.
- P – Positioning
- A – Authenticity
- C – Confidence
- K – Kindness
Positioning – How are you different from everyone else so people can understand who you are and how you can help solve their problems?
You will create a unique value proposition once you know your positioning. You will have a clear statement that determines what it is that you are doing, who you are doing it for, and how it is different from anyone else.
The first step is always figuring out who we are talking to. We create content and offers but if we are not speaking to someone specifically, it makes it near impossible to reach anybody.
We often think we need to cast a wide net in the ocean. There is a red ocean and everyone goes after the same one. The sharks are all eating up everything that is in there.
The blue ocean doesn’t have as many people because you are niche specific. You know who you are speaking to and because of that, they identify themselves as the perfect audience for you.
When you are trying to determine who your audience is, remember to keep it specific. It is okay to narrow it down to one person in particular. You will attract others outside of that but you will attract people who are similar to you and will see themselves in what you create and want to work with you.
How can you use AI to find out who your specific audience is?
You can use different prompts in AI. You have to teach AI to understand who you are and who you are trying to reach. You will ask it different types of questions and provide it with information so it is able to help you refine who you are trying to attract.
Apply information you already have. Jenny added her book and asked who the key people she needed to reach and what other content she could create based on the book that would lead back to the book.
If you have products or services that you already offer, you could figure out your customer’s journey of awareness and education to get to the conversion of them to buy your product.
With those pieces of the customer journey, you want to create content that will attract your target audience and that is where your positioning will help. They will see themselves and see that your product offers the solution they need.
Speaking to our target audience directly correlates to making more money. When people can identify themselves in your content, it makes it easier for them to see that you have the solution they need because you are talking to them. Now they are opening their wallets.
Authenticity is the next important piece. Your story is unlike anyone else’s story. Because there is a lot of content out there that can be generated by AI, the stories you tell are going to come across authentically and set you apart.
When creating your content, ensure you put your voice into it. You have a specific tone that is yours. You will add in the stories that people are able to connect with.
You can do this by talking about your previous students / clients and how you have worked with them. When you can speak to that, it does two things.
First, it makes it very authentic because you are telling a story.
Second, it is social proof that you are already helping others in the way you say you can help solve their problems.
Everyone is trying to help people get on board with AI. AI will help level the playing field but it makes it that much more important to be authentic and show up as a human because there is going to be an influx of content.
You have to find the platforms that give you your voice and are able for people to connect and see you. That is how you are going to set yourself apart. When someone can see you in a video or hear your voice on a podcast, there is an immediate connection.
Maybe they think you talk too fast and are not their cup of tea or they connect with you because you are an educator. It speeds up the process.
Traditionally, people would read a blog post or try to find an article. By having video or audio content, it is going to make a difference because the authenticity is there. Show up either on video or in audio.
You want to make sure that you are repurposing that content. Just because you create a video does not mean you create a bunch of different content on Instagram, TikTok, etc. You can take one piece of content and repurpose it across multiple platforms.
Jenny makes a YouTube video and then pulls the audio out to make a podcast. That gets turned into a blog post and then gets emailed to the audience.
Then, she uses the content across social media. It will be a reel and a short for YouTube as well as creating static content with Instagram.
Thinking about how you can repurpose content so you can reach multiple people is going to be key. We used to say people need to see things 6-8 times before they convert and become a customer. Now, they have to see you on four different platforms, watch or consume your content for about eleven hours, and see you multiple times before they will convert.
It is important that you find different ways to leverage your content on multiple platforms. Video has changed everything. The way people trust others is different than it used to be prior.
People are used to consuming content and flipping through their feed that they are not connected to it. In order to connect with you, they have to see you on multiple platforms and that is how they will come to trust you.
So many of us have a resistance to showing up on camera to create content and we wonder why we cannot convert. It is because the buyers are changing. They need to see the authentic piece of you. The static content that used to work in the past isn’t going to be sufficient.
Confidence can be improved just like you would work out a specific muscle. The more you do something, the more confident and comfortable you become in what you are doing.
This kind of content was not offered in college until very recently. Being able to get an online presence and starting to create content, video, audio, products, and services, is going to be uncomfortable until you get used to it.
You will get used to it and be more comfortable in what you educate people on. A lot of people say they are never going to get in front of a video. Jenny is an introvert. It was hard for her in the beginning. She had to rip off the band-aid and know she would be uncomfortable.
Now she doesn’t get nervous before an interview. It is more natural for her to talk and she no longer hesitates because she has done it so many times.
The only way to build confidence is to jump in the deep end and figure it out as you go. You will not do it perfectly.
Each client will be a bit different. You will find some clients that are perfect for you and some that are not your ideal customer. Figuring that out is key to having a successful business.
A lot of introverted people use it as an excuse not to show up. That is not a reason. Introversion is about how you recharge and what gives you energy.
Even though you may not enjoy being around people all the time, if you have a gift or talent in providing a particular service and are knowledgeable, that is all you need to show up and be confident. You will get used to being on camera in time.
The authenticity of what you know and who you are is what shines through. It will no longer feel like being on camera. It will feel like sharing, teaching, providing resources, creating impact for the people you want to serve. You care more about that than the discomfort of messing up while you are speaking.
Being on camera isn’t that bad. Confidence builds on the authenticity of showing up and being yourself. A lot of us have imposter syndrome. We have been taught to be seen and not heard. We have grown up and being a business owner may not have been an option.
It is getting past the wondering of who you are to be doing this, but also having the understanding that if you don’t put out the solution that you know you have, you are being selfish and taking away your gift from others. You have a solution but are too afraid to offer it.
Continue to put out content, even when it is crickets. People will find your solution that is meant to attract them. This is why you have to figure out your positioning and know the problem you solve.
You have to know what people are searching for. What is it perimenopausal women are struggling with? You have to put content out there that they will be searching for. You cannot put out broad things like “the best vitamins for women.” They are searching for how to get more energy or how to deal with memory loss.
This is why Jenny recommends key word research. You have to understand the words people are searching to find the solutions you offer. The key word research goes back to knowing who you are talking to and using AI to find those answers.
You can leverage AI to improve the skillsets that you have and make things faster, more efficient, more affordable, and cut expenses.
Kindness is the thought that if you don’t put your solution out to the world, you are being selfish. By putting it out there, you are being kind.
Many people say they do not like to sell. If you can show that you can solve a problem, selling isn’t an issue. You just need a call to action (CTA), which might be “grab the free guide” or “get on the email list.” It is the next step and not a sleazy sell.
The next piece of kindness is being kind to yourself. You have to know that your journey is yours. We are bombarded with social media. We often see things like “Seven figures in seven days.” and wonder why we aren’t doing that. We start to compare ourselves to others that are growing quickly or have more subscribers.
We have to remember that our journeys look different. Our lives are different. Maybe they are 20 years old and don’t have kids and responsibilities like you do. They might have more time to devote to business.
Do they have different goals than you? It is important that you understand the vision and mission of your business. Why are you trying to do what you are trying to do?
If you don’t want to have a team of 15 people in business, it is likely that a seven figure business isn’t part of your dream. You won’t necessarily be able to do that without a team of people that you have to manage.
Why are you doing what you are doing? You want to be sure you are setting up your business and expectations the right way. You don’t want to go into social media, get frustrated, and feel like a failure because you see someone else doing what you think you should be doing.
Evaluate to see if it is in line with your vision and mission for your business. Start blocking people and seeing others in your niche if you are not able to compare yourself to them.
You have to protect yourself and put boundaries in place. A lot of women don’t feel comfortable with boundaries. We are used to helping others before we help ourselves when boundaries don’t feel comfortable. You feel like you are doing something wrong. Being kind to yourself might include setting those boundaries.
At face value, somebody can be nice. They are pleasant and smiling. They are not necessarily kind people.
Being kind includes sharing the solution that you have, even if it makes the people you serve feel a little bit uncomfortable because it can help improve their quality of life. You get to show up as a better version of yourself to hold yourself accountable to serve your audience.
You have to evaluate if you are comparing yourself on similar goals or just what you see on the timelines of others.
Perhaps you are more motivated by the impact you make or the number of people you serve over the amount of money you make. That could be your motivation.
Unfollow the pages that do not align with you and don’t feel guilty about disconnecting from great pages that cause you to feel inadequate about yourself.
Be nice as you are building your business, because being an entrepreneur is hard. You have to know your vision and mission so you don’t wonder why you are doing certain things. You have to understand where you are going.
You do not have to be all over social media 24/7. You cannot build a business on rented property. Social media is rented property.
Those platforms can do whatever they want. They can change the algorithm. They can decide what they are going to show and not show. They can decide how the platform works and change it. They can shut it down at any time.
Everyone thought Google + was going to be amazing. Jenny had 660,000 followers, and Google shut it down. Jenny had made the mistake of not growing her email list to send them back to her own content, services, and products that she offered.
Your first step in an online business should not be just to put content on social media. Put content on YouTube. Take the video and turn it into a blog post and podcast. Use key word research and SEO to help people find you. Then, you can utilize it on social media.
Don’t start with social media, though. You can lose those leads. You don’t own the real estate on social media platforms.
You have to do a better job of pulling the leads off of social media and getting them to the content and assets you own, like your email list. Having a way to continually drive them to the products and services you offer is huge.
What is another important strategy for not being replaced by AI?
You have to accept AI and know that you can use it to speed things up. You are looking to replicate yourself and do most of the things you want to do for your business on your phone.
AI makes it super simple. You can download apps right to your phone. You need to have an AI source like ChatGPT, CoPilot, or Gemini or your phone. It is simple to have and easy to use.
You can use it for everything you do, from the start of content, titles, outlines, blog posts, podcast episodes, social shares, descriptions, etc.
How much time and money has AI saved you?
Jenny estimates that it has saved her $500-600 per month, so she doesn’t have to pay a team to help with some things. That saves $5,000-6,000 a year just leveraging AI tools.
Jenny avoided YouTube for a long time because she hated the editing piece. Using CapCut made the editing much simpler to do.
Having the mindset that she is going to test it out and see how it is, and then being able to create a system and a process, saves a ton of time.
She has more control. She plans and records her entire summer of podcasts, blog posts, etc., before the kids are out of school, since she won’t have as much time. The time aspect is a great reason by itself to utilize AI.
