How to Use Your Marketing Personality to Grow Your Business with Brit Kolo

Brit Kolo is on the podcast with me today to talk about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and how you can use that information to find your marketing personality. This directly affects how you market your business and will help you market in a way that makes you feel good.

Why Personality Testing Is Good for Your Business

Brit owns and runs Marketing Personalities. The goal of her business is to connect you with your best marketing strategy based on your Myers-Briggs personality type. (Also know as MBTI).

The reason this matters is so that you can show up feeling good about yourself, and to help your audience feel good about you as well.

There is a way in which you market your business that will make you feel good. A lot of times, we feel like we have to test out so many different ways to market, and just allow the trial and error to take place.

Brit uses your Myers-Briggs personality as a shortcut to help you figure out what will work well when it comes to marketing.

Feeling Good in Your Marketing

The very first step in marketing is to identify what marketing strategy will feel good for you.

You need to know what it will look like for you to show up feeling good in your marketing, in order to attract the right clients.

Brit can talk strategy all day long, but that strategy doesn’t matter if you don’t feel good about what you are doing. If you are feeling sales-y, or fake, it’s not going to work.

You have to figure out how to feel comfortable in your business marketing.

Knowing Your MBTI

Your marketing personality is a great starting point. Knowing your Myers-Briggs personality type and your marketing personality is just a helpful shortcut.

Brit has married the two worlds: business marketing and personality types (specifically MBTI). She looks at your four letters or preferences, (Brit is an ENFJ) and can learn a lot about how you naturally prefer to show up in the world.

There are over 7 billion people in the world and only 16 different personality types according to the MBTI. Obviously, this test cannot tell us every single thing about you as a person. It’s not perfect but it can give us an idea of who you are and what you prefer when it comes to how you live your life.

You can feel like you’re doing all the “right” things when it comes to marketing your business and still not be growing. Or maybe you are growing, but you’re feeling completely miserable and burned out because you’re marketing your business how you think you should, but not in a way that makes you feel good.

Your personality type gives you a ton of information about what sorts of things will make you feel good.

The 4 Letter Options

There are four main letters for your type, and for each letter, you have two options. There is a sliding scale between your two options, so you can be 60% of one option and 40% of the other.

You can learn a ton by taking the assessment and reading about your type.

  • First Letter: I (Introvert) or E (Extrovert)

Introverts are more sensitive to external stimuli while extroverts are less sensitive to external stimuli. Introverts’ nervous systems are more likely to be activated quickly, the louder and more active their surroundings. They will need to recharge with quiet surroundings and to be less active for a while.

  • Second Letter: N (Intuitive) or S (Observing/Sensing)

If you are more on the intuitive end, you pay more attention to internal cues as opposed to external cues. The observing or sensing person pays more attention to cues coming from your external world. If your second letter is not N, it doesn’t mean you have no intuition; this N is more of a psychological term, not a spiritual term.

  • Third Letter: F (Feeling) or T (Thinking)

This letter is all about where you prefer to make decisions. Feeling types prefer to make decisions based on feelings and emotions while Thinking types prefer to make decisions based on data and knowledge. This doesn’t mean a Feeling type will never make a decision on data or vice versa for a Thinking type.

  • Fourth Letter: J (Judging) or P (Perceiving/Prospecting)

A judging type is a person who is more discerning and can make decisions quicker and more easily than the perceiving/prospecting types. Judging types see things in black and white, so it’s easier for them to make quicker and more assured decisions. The Perceiving types see the world in grey and might self-identify as someone who has a hard time making decisions. This person prefers to keep their options open so they don’t miss out.

Marketing Personality Type Full Report

Brit has made it super easy for you to figure out how to market your business based on your type. You can go to her website and choose your type and she will tell you more about your type and give you a mini-report on it.

This mini-report will tell you what will feel good for you and what you can start implementing in your business marketing.

If you love that mini-report and want to learn more about your best marketing strategy, content strategy, social media strategy and so much more, you can learn more about that in the Marketing Personality Type Full Report that Brit has on her website. It is over 60 pages for a one-time payment of only $29 and so worth it.

When I launched my very first signature course 3 years ago, I used the marketing strategy that I learned from my Marketing Personality Type Full Report.

That launch was hugely successful. Seeing that and connecting the dots was such an “ah-ha” moment. I have spent even more time studying my personality type and how that affects my marketing since then.

Use what you’ve learned today to market your business in a way that makes you feel good.

Go take the MBTI personality test and then go to Brit’s website to learn more about your marketing personality type. Make sure you get your full report. You can also email Brit if you have any questions about your type or using that to grow your business.
